Kyrgyzstan after the USSR: Recognizing Taiwan as integral part of China

As we know, one of the main reasons of beginning a Cold War after the WWII was the Divided China problem. The USA has been recognized Taiwan as a legal Authority of whole China, the USSR recognized China as. So, today Kyrgyzstan supports China in its “One China” policy, centred in Beijing.

Kyrgyz News agencies, and not only, began publishing the information about the recognizing Taiwan as a part of China. It is after Kurmanbek Bakiev and Hu Jintao signed the declaration on further neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, during the official visit of Chiese President. There is written “Taiwan is the integral part of Chinese
territory. Kyrgyz side is against any attempts to create “two Chinas”
and against the participation of Taiwan in any international and
regional organizations in which only sovereign states can participate,” says the document, signed by two Presidents.

I think President Bakiev even haven’t understood what he signed, as probably he doesn’t know the history of China-Taiwan Conflict.

Glad you put the spotlight on the issue, Mirsulzhan. In a sense though, it’s almost a non-issue for most countries. Whether or not Bakiyev understood what he was sining, Kyrgyzstan depends on China in a number of ways. All the remaining 23 countries that recognize Taiwan are tiny and in it largely for their own gain. Malawi just pulled out a few months back. (I’m in Taiwan now, btw)
